WE GET IT
RIGHT.
Alchemy Band is a group of experienced Bay Area musicians who tackle the tougher compositions — the ones other bands shy away from. We pride ourselves in playing them as they were composed and intended.
Lead singer Chris Jeffery immediately establishes warm rapport with the audience as they get ready to get down! We play funk, rock 'n' roll, soul, and R&B — throwing in everything from Michael Jackson to Tears for Fears.
Whether it's a corporate event, a concert, or a private party — Alchemy brings the dance party.

WE'RE GONNA ROCK DA HOUSE!
Alchemy Band · San Francisco Bay Area
Mark Rickey
Musical Director, Keyboards & Vocals
In Alchemy we say, "ANYTHING is possible with Mark Rickey in the band!" A Bay Area native born to a musical family, Mark began classical piano at age five and continued through college, earning a Marketing degree with a Music minor from San Jose State University. He turned his studies to jazz and improvisation and has performed around the Bay for over twenty years. Mark co-leads The Lime Rickey Quintet — named for his father's 1940s dance band — with cousin and vocalist Paul Rickey, selling out multiple performances at The JazzSchool in Berkeley. He has worked with Brenda Boykin, Julio Bravo, and many other stellar musicians, and also serves as pianist and musical director for the "gosperational" sound of Sharon D. Henderson and Reflection.
Christopher Jeffery
Lead Vocals
Christopher Jeffery is a 30-year veteran of music, stage, and screen. In 1985, as the youngest member of Jackie Hairston's world-renowned singing group "The New Travelling Voices," Christopher shared the stage with all-time Big Band and Jazz greats Cab Calloway, Nancy Wilson, The Duke Ellington Band, and Max Roach. After a tour in the Army where he served as a Combat Medic in the Gulf War, Christopher returned to the stage in 1992 as a member of Quincy Jones' Qwest Records supergroup "Force One Network," featuring David Hollister and Prince bandmate Boni Boyer. In 1999 he received a Bachelor's degree in Film from The University of the Pacific. Since then he has remained engaged with the Bay Area art community and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Motion Picture Production.
Jstone
Lead Guitar & Background Vocals
The visionary force of Alchemy — an impresario and cultural icon known for fusing music, message, and movement. A masterful multi-instrumentalist, producer, and creative architect, he wrote, produced, and performed with his own band, Funkanauts, authoring the majority of their original signature sound. Jstone has initiated international collaborations as far away as Brazil.
Duane deJoie
Rhythm Guitar & Background Vocals
A New Orleans native who moved from Boulder to Berkeley for his graduate degree at Cal — and hasn't left yet. Duane played with Funkanauts, PhatLuv Band, and various informal aggregations before he, Mark Rickey, and Chris Jeffery formed Alchemy five years ago.
Roque Batty
Bass Guitar
A native of Belize, Roque is an accomplished musician and master luthier with superb skills. He designs and builds his own instruments and is sought after internationally for his excellent work by musicians around the world.
Super Drummer
Drums & Percussion
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Super has played with Eric Marathol, Andy Martin, Frank Sinatro, Jackie from The Kurt Carr Singers, and Tremaine Hawkins. Ronnell's dream is to inspire people not to give up on their dreams — with hard work and the help of God, they can come true.
Sound · Lighting · Mixing
Sound, lighting, and mixing for the band is done by Byron Hoffman of the former powerhouse radio station KRE.
